Adam Douglas, with an already impressive discography - appearing on more than a dozen releases - is pleased to announce that his 2nd full-length solo album «The Beauty & The Brawn” will finally be out September 7th.
- It’s always a bit nerve-racking when preparing to release new material. A healthy blend of nervousness, excitement and pride. Perhaps especially this time, with such personal material, Adam says.
The American artist, living in Norway, has loved music and the life on stage since he was a young boy, and with his magnificent voice and honest and revealing songs, it seems like both the music and the audience love him back.
Adam has been a household name among blues fans for a long time, but was fully discovered by the Norwegian people after beating nine other established artists in a genre-splitting song contest broadcasted on Norwegian television last fall.
The album consists of 10 songs written and developed by Adam himself. The inspiration is derived from his American roots, where you can trace several genres from country and gospel to blues and rock n’ roll. The album was recorded predominately live in the studio and direct to analog tape, with focus on capturing Adam`s outstanding voice and his distinctive soundscape.
- This time around, going full analog was exactly what the doctor ordered. For the atmosphere we were hunting for, direct to tape was the only way to go. The perfection is very much in the imperfection. The tape process also provides an added warmth to the overall recording, and I was very after the warmth, Adam says.
And with some help from the legendary producer and studio musician, Geir Sundstøl, and other talented musicians, the album ended up as a piece of art.
- I am quite happy with the project as a whole. It’s far from perfect, and that’s what I love about it. The past year of my life has been a complete roller coaster, and very much in the public eye. Therefore, it was very important for me to create a recording that was very honest and revealing. Many people may not get it. Many people may not like it. But for better or worse, it is very Adam, he concludes.
In addition to making a new album, he has performed more than 60 concerts on big stages throughout the entire year. In July, he had the honor of performing for over 10,000 people at Kongsberg Jazz Festival - as support for world-renowned artist Sting, and later as support for Bonnie Raitt at Olavsfestdagene in Trondheim.
