Adam Douglas har aldri laget en politisk låt før, men nå kunne han ikke la være. 23. oktober slipper han «Joyous We’ll Be», en låt om USA, samhold og motstand.

Det er over 10 år siden Adam Douglas flyttet fra USA til Norge, og han har på den tiden gitt ut tre album og deltatt i Stjernekamp på NRK. Han har ikke gjort seg til kjenne som en politisk aktiv artist, men i kjølvannet av den pågående situasjonen i USA, har han sett seg nødt til å ta ordet. Sammen med Jeff Wasserman, en annen amerikaner bosatt i Norge, har han laget «Joyous We’ll Be», en låt som tar et oppgjør med de politiske og sosiale kampene vi ser utspille seg i USA i dag.

- Jeg er flau, og blir det bare mer og mer, når jeg ser hva som skjer i hjemlandet mitt. Jeg har tenkt det lenge, men nå blir det bare verre og verre. Det føles som at for hver måned som går, kan man kjenne - og se - at spenningene mellom folk og grupper bygger seg mer opp og det virker som at vi bare kommer nærmere og nærmere en borgerkrig. Da Trump vant sist valg ga han folk en unnskylding til å rope ut om meningene sine. Rasismen og alt annet har alltid vært der, men nå kommer det virkelig til overflaten, sier Adam om bakgrunnen til at han lagde låta sammen med Jeff.

Det ikke en anti Trump-låt, men en anti idiot-låt. Det gjelder selvsagt for Trump, men Adam Douglas er mer opptatt av å snakke om håpet og at ting kan bli bedre. Med innslag av gospelkor, blåserekke og amerikansk rootsmusikk oppfordrer han til håp, samhold og å se framover mot en bedre framtid. Adam har selv skrevet musikk og melodien til låta, men sammen med Jeff Wasserman fikk han satt ord på følelsene. «Joyous We’ll Be» er bare første smakebit fra det kommende albumet som blir det tredje studioalbumet i rekken. Adam er i storform og med nyvunnet politisk åpenhet, er han klar for å stå opp for hjemlandet sitt og se framover mot en forhåpentligvis lysere framtid gjennom de kommende låtene.

Adam Douglas has never written a political song before, but now he felt that he had to. He will release the single «Joyous We’ll Be» on October 23rd, a song about USA, unity and resistance. 

More than 10 years has passed since Adam Douglas moved to Norway from the US. Since then, he has released 3 albums and won the popular Norwegian prime time TV show “Stjernekamp” («Battle of the stars»). Not normally known for being a politically active artist, the current political climate in the home country has made Douglas feel that now is the right time for him to speak up. In collaboration with fellow musician and Norwegian-based American Jeff Wassermann, Douglas have written «Joyous We’ll Be», a song taking a powerful stand against the social and political challenges currently facing the people in the US.

- I am embarrassed – and have been increasingly so – when I see what is going on in my native country. For a while I have been thinking about it, but now it is just getting worse. It feels like as every month that goes by, you can feel the tension building up and it seems like we are closer and closer to the brink of civil war. When Trump won the last election, he gave people an excuse to be public about their viewpoints. Those viewpoints of racism and all that stuff have always been there, bubbling under the surface, but he has allowed it to come out, Adam Douglas explains about the background for which he and Jeff wrote the song.

«It is not an anti-Trump song, it is an ‘anti-idiot’ song», Adam Douglas continues. «It is about Trump as well, but I am more interested in talking about hope and that things could be better.» By applying (typical American) musical elements such as gospel choir, wind sections and American roots music, they wish to encourage hope, unity and the prospect of a better future. The music is written by Douglas and the lyrics in collaboration with Jeff Wasserman. «Joyous We’ll Be» is the first single from Adam Douglas’ upcoming third studio album. On it, Douglas showcases a newfound enthusiasm and political outspokenness in the hopes for a better future full of hope and prosperity in the United States.
